College football has found a new heavyweight. David Jones, known as "Big Dave," tips the scales at 425 pounds. Mississippi Valley State lists the defensive lineman at just 6-foot-0. That combination makes him the heaviest player in Division I.
Jones arrives as a senior after two seasons at Livingstone College. The Blue Bears listed him at 6-foot-2 and 350 pounds. Opposing coaches double-teamed him constantly. He still disrupted plays and freed linebackers behind him.
College Football Sees Rare Size and Skill Combo
Livingstone found various ways to exploit Jones' physique. They also used him in short-yardage packages on offense. He scored three rushing touchdowns in 2025. Clips of the 350-pound lineman rumbling into the end zone spread quickly.
Jones took a long path to this point. He starred at Hephzibah High School in Georgia. Multiple Division III and NAIA offers came after high school. He chose the junior college route instead and later worked a job at UPS while emailing coaches daily.
"Every Sunday, [we] emailed every coach starting from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi," Jones told HBCU Gameday, via BroBible. "All the way from D1 to D3… and we did that every day consistently."
College Football Opportunity Opens at Mississippi Valley State
Livingstone assistant Mark Williams replied within 30 minutes. Jones thrived with the Blue Bears. He entered the transfer portal after the 2025 season. Mississippi Valley State offered a full scholarship and a chance at the FCS level.
Current NCAA rules on junior college eligibility could give Jones two more years. A strong season with the Delta Devils might open FBS doors later.
College football rarely sees a player this large at this height. Jones already proved he can move and score. Fans will watch closely when the Delta Devils take the field this fall, hoping to see Jones make an immediate impact on his new team.
