Former Florida State football quarterback Tommy Castellanos is planning to enter the transfer portal, according to On3's Pete Nakos.

Castellanos was out of eligibility following the 2025 season and entered the 2026 NFL Draft. He went undrafted and decided to try to get a fifth year of eligibility. He was granted another year of eligibility when Judge Charlotte Sweeney in the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a class-wide preliminary injunction against the NCAA that gave all 2022 high school recruits a fifth year of eligibility. However, the ruling did not change the transfer rules, which required him to get a temporary injunction from a Kentucky judge to allow him to enter the portal.

The NCAA was able to get a stay decision on the Colorado ruling on Friday, meaning the players who were initially eligible are no longer, unless another court had given them an extra year, which Castellanos had received. The lawsuits came after the NCAA changed eligibility rules to allow players to play five seasons in five years, but did not include the 2022 recruiting class in the decision.

He started all 12 games for FSU last season, completing 58.3% of his passes for 2,760 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He finished as FSU's leading rusher, carrying the ball 137 times for 557 yards and nine touchdowns.

Nakes has previously reported that Castellanos is open to playing quarterback or another position. While he has only played quarterback at the college level, he received some interest as a wide receiver following the draft. At 5-foot-11 and 201 pounds, he lacks the ideal size for a quarterback but is a dynamic athlete and has thrived running the ball during his career.
