A favorite has emerged for former FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos.

It was reported earlier on Friday that Castellanos was planning to enter the transfer portal, and in the afternoon, Stewart Mandel of The Athletic reported that he is "expected to land at Texas Tech."

Castellanos was originally out of eligibility following the 2025 season, his only one at Florida State, but was recently granted an injunction that granted him an extra year of eligibility and allowed him to enter the transfer portal. While the NCAA was able to get a stay decision on the Colorado ruling that gave all 2022 high school recruits a fifth year of eligibility, he also received one from a judge in Kentucky.

Will Hammond is set to take over as Texas Tech's starting quarterback after Brendan Sorsby was ruled ineligible after a lengthy legal battle. Hammond has been cleared to start the season after suffering a torn ACL in 2025, but Castellanos would give them a veteran backup if needed.

Castellanos started all 12 games for FSU last season, completing 58.3% of his passes for 2,760 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He finished as the team's leading rusher, carrying the ball 137 times for 557 yards and nine touchdowns.

He has played in 38 games during his time at FSU, Boston College, and UCF, throwing for 6,449 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions. He has also rushed for 1,984 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
