Breaking down 2027 Rivals300 commits by conference

Jon Sumrall, Mario Cristobal, Dan Lanning, Joey McGuire

All 300 prospects featured in the latest edition of Rivals’ recruiting rankings — the Rivals300 — for the class of 2027 are currently committed. That’s unprecedented but indicative of how fast things now move on the trail.

Recruiting news for the senior cycle will have to revolve around flips and decommitments this fall. With the top 300 recruits in the nation off the board, though, it gives us a great look at which conferences have locked down the most blue-chip talent.

Rivals takes a look at how many 2027 Rivals300 prospects each conference has committed, as of Aug. 21. One league has more than a third of the 300 commitments, while another barely has more than Notre Dame.

SEC — 111

While the SEC is trying to return to the top of the college football mountain, its recruiting pedigree is as strong as ever. It easily leads the way with 111 Rivals300 commits, which are scattered across 15 of their 16 programs.

Texas A&M has the No. 1 class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and it includes 14 Rivals300 commits. Surprisingly, that’s not the most in the conference, as Florida’s No. 8 class features 15 — an impressive haul for new head coach Jon Sumrall.

Oklahoma and Texas both have top-10 recruiting classes, too, and both have 10 Rivals300 prospects pledged coming out of the summer. Ole Miss is right behind with nine, while Auburn and LSU each have eight. Five other SEC teams have five or more: Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri.

Notably, Kalen DeBoer’s class at Alabama has just three. Arkansas is the lone program without a Rivals300 commit entering the fall. An up-to-date look at the top 10 Rivals300 commits across the conference can be seen here.

Big Ten — 89

The Big Ten as a whole continues to ride momentum and that has trickled down to the trail. Eight teams have a top-25 class to date and there’s 89 total Rivals300 commits in the conference. of the 18 teams, 15 have at least one in the fold.

The usual suspects are leading the charge. Both Oregon and Ohio State have a dozen Rivals300 commitments this cycle. The Ducks and Buckeyes sit at No. 4 and 5 in the team rankings. They are the lone B10 representatives in the top 10.

Michigan has not slowed under new head coach Kyle Whittingham. The Wolverines are next with 11, while USC follows with 10. It’s an impressive haul for the Trojans, considering they have just 14 commits in total.

UCLA is on the rise under Bob Chesney and the Bruins have eight Rivals300 commits in their 2027 class. Nebraska has seven, while defending national champions Indiana and Washington both have six. Penn State and Wisconsin each have five, while Rutgers, Iowa and Purdue are the three teams in the league without at least one right now. See the top 10 commits in the Big Ten here.

ACC — 51

The ACC has some surprising success stories when it comes to recruiting this cycle, but the league is behind the SEC and Big Ten when it comes to recruiting depth. There’s 51 Rivals300 commits spread out across 12 of the 17 league members.

Miami is pulling its weight and then some. The Hurricanes have the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class and the pledge list features 15 Rivals300 prospects. No other ACC school has a top-15 class, though Clemson is on the doorstep at No. 16.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have 11 commits featured in the Rivals300. There’s a notable drop after Clemson as Virginia Tech is next with five. Cal and Florida State each have four, while Georgia Tech checks in with three. Louisville, Stanford and North Carolina also have multiple. The top 10 Rivals300 commits in the ACC, most of whom are committed to Miami, can be seen here.

Big 12 — 28

The Big 12 is a distant fourth among the Power Four conferences with just 28 Rivals300 commitments. If not for Texas Tech, that number would be far lower. The Red Raiders are the only Big 12 team with a top-30 class, per the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

TTU’s No. 9 class features 17 total commits and 12 of them are in the Rivals300. Head coach Joey McGuire and Co. are recruiting at a high level in Lubbock and have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in their league.

Nine other Big 12 teams have at least one commit featured in the Rivals300. Colorado and Kansas State both have three, while Houston, West Virginia and Arizona State all have a pair. Houston is the only other Big 12 school alongside TTU that has a top-100 overall prospect in Rivals’ rankings. See the top 10 in the league here.

Notre Dame — 19

To further illustrate how far behind the Big 12 is from the rest of the pack, look at Notre Dame’s 2027 class, which currently sits at No. 2 in the nation. The Fighting Irish have the most Rivals300 commits of any team with 19.

Head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have 23 total commits and all but four are among Rivals’ top 300 in the entire cycle heading into football season. That’s quite the haul set to head to South Bend next year. If you took Texas Tech out of the Big 12, then Notre Dame would have more Rivals300 commits than the rest of the conference combined.

To round things out, there’s also two Rivals300 recruits who are currently committed to a school outside of the Power Four: Offensive tackle Rashaun Lavata’i is pledged to Washington State, while wide receiver Dylan Medlock is pledged to UTSA.
