Former FSU quarterback commits to Texas Tech

Former Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos has found a new home. He has committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

He was granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA in Kentucky last week. This allowed him to officially enter the transfer portal for a fifth season. Castellanos has spent time with the UCF Knights, Boston College Eagles, and FSU prior to landing with Texas Tech.

In Rivals transfer rankings, Castellanos was a three-star prospect who was listed as the No. 411 overall player. He was also the No. 25 quarterback.

Castellanos started the 2025 season with a bang against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Florida State's season opener. He made it clear that they weren't the same program with former head coach Nick Saban, and he backed it up by leading the Seminoles to victory. A couple of wins followed, but struggles came shortly after.

FSU finished the season 5-7 after a 3-0 start, and the inconsistency of Castellanos played a big role. For the season, Castellanos only completed 58.3% of his passes for 2,760 yards and just 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He was a productive player on the ground as he led FSU with 557 rushing yards, and his nine rushing touchdowns were the most as well.

Now, Castellanos gets a clean slate and another shot to show what he can do at Texas Tech. It's his last collegiate season, which means he has to show and prove if he wants to get drafted in the NFL.
