ABOUT THAT NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL DEPTH CHART
I’ve covered college football long enough to understand that anything said before the week one game can be interpreted as number of different ways. The depth chart, for example, is one of the biggest culprits. Coaches can list off a number of names for a position and can make it seem like they are really deep there, or they can list a number of of names for a position and it’s because they don’t have anyone stepping up to the mark.
And really, that’s what I take from Mike Denbrock’s presser (as reported by Eric Hansen). Whether it’s talk about Styles Prescod, Nolan James, Elijah Burress — or whoever, I honestly don’t know what to make of it. I want to believe things are fallking into place neatly… but when is it ever all that neat?
General logic should have us believe, for example, that Nolan James should be RB2 this season. Mike Denbrock had high praise for James, but it’s hard to really lean into that sentiment with no prior proof. And you know what… prior proof doesn’t always mean anything either. So, with just a little over a week to go, we wait for the only proof that matters — what happens against Wisconsin.
DANE BRUGLER ISN’T BUYING CJ CARR STOCK
Dane Brugler has CJ Carr as the 27th best prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft class, and the 3rd best quarterback behind Arh Manning of Texas and Dante Moore of Oregon. It’s not a huge slight, but it’s enough to make me think… that’ll be a lot different come March.
Anyways… He has 5 players listed in his first top 50 rankings.
