‘Jerry, make the call’ – Cowboys fans are dreaming of blockbuster trade after Adam Schefter’s update

Christian Gonzalez’s contract situation with the New England Patriots does not look close to coming to an end anytime soon.

With no agreement close, some opportunistic Dallas Cowboys fans feel Jerry Jones could make a blockbuster move for the cornerback.

The Cowboys have made positive strides to improve their defence in recent months, with a solid 2026 draft class under their belt.

However, further additions would always be welcomed given the struggles Brian Schottenheimer experienced defensively last season.

Signing a player of Gonzalez’s quality would certainly be a huge move for the Cowboys, with some fans already drawing up potential trade proposals.

The Patriots have seen the cornerback market inflate this summer, as Devon Witherspoon has now become the highest-paid CB in history.

With time running out until the 2026 season gets underway, it looks as if Gonzalez could be set to play without a new deal signed.

“I don’t think that Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots have been close to a new deal. They don’t appear to be wanting to give him Devon Witherspoon type money,” said Adam Schefter.

After hearing the comments from Schefter, one Cowboys fan said: ‘Jerry make the call and offer Bland and draft picks get him to Dallas.’

‘Jerry could lock down the best defence in the league with this,’ said another.

The Cowboys are taking a $17m cap hit on DaRon Bland’s salary this season, which some feel could be alleviated by including him in a trade.

‘On my life, DaRon Bland and two firsts would work or throw in one more role player,’ replied one Cowboys fan.

Another fan also urged Jones to make the call: ‘That’s what I said too ship Bland ASAP and some picks Gonzo would be amazing to have’.

Born in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton, one fan said: ‘Bring him home!’

‘This might be the best trade I’ve seen,’ replied one other Cowboys fan.

Gonzalez stood out in the Patriots’ Super Bowl defeat against the Seahawks, with many feeling he could add the star quality the Cowboys need at defensive back.
