It has been a long seven months, but college football is finally back on Saturday, Aug. 29, for Week 0 of the 2026 season.
Power Four programs North Carolina and TCU have the honors of being the first game of the new campaign, when they kickoff in Dublin in the annual Aer-Lingus College Football Classic. A few other well-known programs will also start their season on Aug. 25.

There’s also a rare Week 0 conference game between North Carolina State and Virginia, who were scheduled to play a home-and-home nonconference series before the ACC introduced a nine-game conference schedule. The two teams were originally also set to play in Rio De Janeiro, but logistical issues resulted in the game being moved to Virginia’s home stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Week 0 normally has some wacky games, but college football fans are assuredly just happy to end talking season and see some actual competition.
