The 2024 Recruiting Cycle Is Poised To Dominate College Football

This is shaping up to be a dominant season of college football. Unlike recent seasons, there's a host of teams this fall that have the opportunity to play for the national title and like every title contending team, they'll need their fair dosage of star power to get them through a 15 to 16 game season. If any team this season is going to win a championship, they'll need all hands on deck, but this season, the star power throughout the country comes in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Let's look at Notre Dame: starting quarterback and captain CJ Carr is one of the premier signal callers in the country. He, along with star cornerback Leonard Moore, linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, offensive linemen Guerby Lambert and Anthonie Knapp, defensive end Boubacar Traore, safety Brauntae Johnson and running back Aneyas Williams are all considered stars or candidates on the verge of a breakout into stardom.
Notre Dame isn't alone in their 2024 recruiting class surge. The Ohio State Buckeyes are loaded with talent. The No. 1 wide receiver in the country, Jeremiah Smith is from the '24 recruiting cycle as is quarterback Julian Sayin, safety Jaylen McClain, linebacker Payton Pierce and defensive lineman Eddrick Houston.
The Texas Longhorns are amongst one of the favorites to win the title in 2026. Their 2024 recruiting cycle consisted of defensive end Colin Simmons, wide receiver Ryan Wingo and offensive lineman Brandon Baker. The same could be said for Oregon who will be relying on '24 recruits Ify Obidegwu, Jeremiah McClellan and Aaron Flowers.
Programs around the country will be relying on several members of the 2024 recruiting cycle to either carry the team or play integral roles in team success whether they recruited them in through high school pipelines or acquired them via the transfer portal.
Portal players like wide receiver Cam Coleman who is now at Texas, quarterback DJ Lagway who is now at Baylor, offensive lineman Jordan Seaton who is now at LSU, wide receiver Mylan Graham who is now at Notre Dame and quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer who is now at Virginia Tech will all be relied upon to play massive roles at their new destinations.
A lot of preseason watch lists for post season awards like the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, the Biletnikoff Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award have several members of the 2024 recruiting cycle like Carr, Sayin, Smith, Moore, Viliamu-Asa and Coleman.
At the end of the day, you'll need everyone and not every projected star in college football belongs to the '24 recruiting cycle. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore is one of the most talked about players in the country as is Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, Texas quarterback Arch Manning and Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney.
It's not the end all, be all but the 2024 recruiting class is home to several star players that we'll see make highlight-reel plays throughout the 2026 season. The 2024 recruiting class is home to the preseason Heisman favorite in Carr, two of the best players in the country in Smith from Ohio State and Moore from Notre Dame and several impact players on multiple title contenders. If this year in college football is going to be what we think it can be, then this class will be at the center of that discussion.
