Tennessee football all-time results on August 30

Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891. Throughout its history, the Vols have played on Aug. 30 four times and have a 4-0 record.
Tennessee has played two neutral-site games and two contests at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols first played on Aug. 30 in 1987, defeating Iowa, 23-22, in Kickoff Classic V at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
In 1997, the Vols defeated Texas Tech, 52-17, at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee also defeated Fresno State, 24-6, at home in 2003.
Tennessee last played on Aug. 30 in 2025, defeating Syracuse, 45-26, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
Quarterback Joey Aguilar made his Tennessee debut and completed 16-of-28 passing attempts for 247 yards and three touchdowns.
Star Thomas led the Vols with 92 rushing yards on 12 attempts. He also recorded one reception for seven yards and one touchdown.
DeSean Bishop totaled 82 rushing yards and one touchdown on 11 attempts.
Braylon Staley led Tennessee with 95 receiving yards and one touchdown. Miles Kitselman also had one touchdown reception for Tennessee.
Arion Carter recorded nine tackles and one sack for the Vols, while Jeremiah Telander had one interception.
