Lane Kiffin is preparing for his first season at LSU. After controversially leaving Ole Miss, then bringing plenty of transfers, and now trying to add former NFL players to the roster, Kiffin has become a villain in college football.
Kiffin brought multiple players with him from Ole Miss, but was not able to bring his quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss. Kiffin instead will be working with former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt. Now, Kiffin is speaking out about his new quarterback, per DJ Siddiqi of Covers.
“He’s had great intensity about how he’s gone about this, wanting to chase greatness, and that’s really what I talk about. Really what I try to do in life is relentless pursuit of chasing greatness, and that’s part of sometimes moving jobs that aren’t popular decisions for everybody. But Sam’s done that, and so I’m really excited to see him play,” Kiffin said.

Kiffin will not have to wait much longer to see his quarterback play as LSU will host Clemson on September 5. While the two prepare for the season, Kiffin also is reminded of a different quarterback he faced when watching Leavitt.
“There’s a lot of movement similar to Bo Nix. He was making some plays on the run the other day, and I said, ‘Man, he kind of looks like Bo right there.'” Kiffin added.
The former Ole Miss coach saw Bo Nix on the other sideline twice. In 2020, Auburn beat Ole Miss 35-28 on a game-winning touchdown pass from Nix. The next year, Auburn won again, with Nix making multiple big plays. When Nix entered the transfer portal, Kiffin attempted to bring him to Ole Miss, but the quarterback decided on Oregon instead.
Kiffin has been effusive with his praise for Leavitt this offseason, and now they hope to start the season strong with a win on national television.
