The NC State football team got smacked around by Virginia on Saturday. Virginia defeated the Wolfpack, 34-8. NC State quarterback CJ Bailey had a tough game. He opened up postgame about what went wrong for his squad.

“It happens…I just have to re-gather myself and get my feet back set right,” Bailey said, per Carolina Blitz. “….it was just bad luck. We had tips at the line of scrimmage.”

NC State struggled to move the football in the first half, and the team also couldn’t protect the football. Bailey finished his day with 12 completions and an interception. He posted just 84 passing yards, and also had a red zone fumble.

“The world’s not going to end, but it was disappointing as hell, to say the least, to see how we played today,” North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren said, per the Associated Press. “I own that. That’s on me. Everybody can blame the head coach. That’s great. I’m going to go in there and work my (backside) off for these guys and help them.”

Virginia’s defense was extremely effective. The Cavaliers had Bailey scrambling for most of the day. That pressure led to Bailey making some bad decisions on offense.

Virginia football meanwhile was led by transfer quarterback Beau Pribula. Pribula took to the air and to the ground to lead Virginia’s offense to a powerful victory. The Cavaliers had a stunning drive at one point that lasted a whopping 23 plays.

“I thought he was very decisive, very efficient with the ball,” Virginia coach Tony Elliott said. “He protected it, didn’t put it in jeopardy for the most part. He was looking for checkdowns. If it wasn’t there, he was pulling it down, keeping us ahead of the chains. It was fun to watch him play.”

NC State will next play FCS Richmond, on September 11.
