Recent Washington Huskies Quarterback Lands Job With Big 12 Program

The Washington Huskies football team will have a lot of expectations going into next season after being ranked 17th in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll.

If the Huskies meet or exceed those expectations, they'll be right in the thick of College Football Playoff contention, which would be their third in program history and first in the 12-team CFP playoff format.

A lot of the anticipation on the season Washington has been related to the expected step forward that many analysts believe third-year quarterback Demond Williams Jr. will take.

In reflection of that, Williams has been named to preseason watchlists for several awards. The third-year signal-caller will be entering his second full season as a starter. In his first full year last year, Williams led the Big Ten in total yardage (3,676). He completed 69.5% of his passes for 3,065 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions and ran 143 times for 611 yards and six touchdowns.

Before Williams was given the reins of the offense, he sat behind a veteran quarterback who recently took a job with a Big 12 program.

In Williams' true freshman season, Jedd Fisch's first as head coach of the program, Will Rogers was tasked with leading the program.

Rogers transferred to the Huskies ahead of the 2024 season after four seasons with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

In his lone year on Montlake, Rogers played and started in 11 games and completed 70.7% of his passes for 2,458 yards and threw 14 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Washington finished 6-7 that season and Williams started the final two games of the season, including the Huskies' 35-34 loss in the Sun Bowl to the Louisville Cardinals.

Rogers' college career came to an end after the 2024 season. He played in 54 games (made 51 starts) and completed 69.5% of his passes for 14,773 yards, 108 touchdowns and threw 35 interceptions.

Rogers wasn't able to parlay his college career into a legitimate NFL opportunity, but now it appears that he is now attempting to be laying a groundwork for a coaching career.

According to an article from Roman Tomashoff of Huskies Wire, Rogers joined the staff of the Oklahoma State Cowboys as an offensive analyst.

Rogers addition to the staff and the experience he provided will likely benefit the Cowboys coaching staff, which will be operating for the first time under Eric Morris, who was hired as head coach in December 2025.
