Bishop Gorman saw their hopes of a National Championship dashed after losing to Miami (Fla.) Columbus over the weekend. Foothill had the biggest win of the weekend, and Churchill County continued to roll and solidify their top five standing in the state.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Nevada high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Aug. 30.

1. Bishop Gorman (2-1)

A week after an emotional win over St. John Bosco, the Gaels lost a tough one to Miami (Fla.) Columbus 33-28. Gorman got down early 20-0, rallied late, but fell short of completing the comeback. Miami commit A’mir Sears put on a show on both sides of the ball, with three interceptions and a pair of touchdown catches for Columbus, and showed why he could be the nation’s best two-way player. Gorman quarterback Ace Amina threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns but also three interceptions. The Gaels also had a costly fumble on a kick return midway through the 4th quarter and just looked off and never in sync from the get-go in this one. Gorman will stay on the road and play at American Fork (Utah) Lone Peak, the state’s No. 3-ranked team, on Friday.

2. Liberty (0-1)

The Patriots were off this weekend and will take on a very good Lehi (Utah ) Skyridge team on Friday (Sept. 4).

3. Arbor View (0-2)

The Aggies had a bye over the weekend and will have a big challenge ahead when they take on Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton, ranked No. 3 in the state, on Friday. 

4. Foothill (2-0)

The Falcons had the biggest win of the weekend, knocking off a talented Spanish Springs squad 28-24. The win moved Foothill up to No. 4 in the state but another big challenge awaits on Saturday when they head to the Islands to play Honolulu (Hawaii) Mililani, the No. 1 team in the state. Junior quarterback Ryder Dobbs had himself a night, throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns. 5. Churchill County (3-0)

The Greenwave moved to 3-0 with a 38-0 shutout win over South Tahoe. Quarterback Camden Richardson hit big-play receiver Maxton Richardson for an 81-yard touchdown strike on their opening drive of the game, and the Greenwave never looked back. Richardson threw for four touchdowns, and the defense was suffocating all night. The Greenwave will host Truckee on Friday.

6. Spanish Springs (1-1)

The Cougars lost to Foothill 28-24, despite rolling up 450 yards of total offense. Quarterback Kanon Boggs completed 22-of-32 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns. Carter Johnson caught seven passes for 171 yards and a touchdown, and Braden McDonald and George Deacon Buddy each added touchdown receptions as well. The Cougars will hit the road and take on Meridian (Idaho) Mountain View, the No. 5 team in the state, on Friday.

7. Palo Verde (2-0)

Palo Verde took down Desert Oasis 42-18. The Panthers got it done with a dominant ground game. Junior running back Rio Pascal came into the game with just 37 yards rushing through two games but rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns in this one. The Panthers had over 300 yards on the ground, and the defense added four interceptions. Palo Verde will have a bye this weekend before hosting Durango on September 10.

8. Coronado (2-1)

The Cougars blew out Canyon Springs 55-14. Matthias Rantissi rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, and junior receiver Tristan Grau caught two passes for 78 yards and a pair of scores. It was a balanced effort with five different players scoring touchdowns and a dominant defensive effort that held the Pioneers in check all night. Coronado will host Desert Pines on Thursday.

9. Faith Lutheran (1-1)

The Crusaders took one on the chin, losing to a very good Littleton (Colo.) Valor Christian squad 46-9. The Eagles could be the top team in Colorado this season and are currently rated No. 2 in the state, so no shame there. The Crusaders’ defense really struggled to contain the Eagles’ passing attack, and Notre Dame receiver commit Jackson Coleman went off, hauling in seven catches for 194 yards and three touchdowns. The Crusaders will host La Verne (Calif.) Damien on Friday.

10. Centennial (1-1)

The Bulldogs definitely know how to put points on the board. A week after scoring 49 in a losing effort, they lit up the scoreboard once again to beat Burbank (Calif.) 74-41. Quarterback Blake Nadler stayed hot, throwing for 231 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for two more scores. Minnesota commit Jayden Thomas caught five passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and the Bulldogs also returned a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns. Centennial will host Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry on Friday.
