STILLWATER — Oklahoma State football’s long offseason is over.

Finally.

The new-look Cowboys will play football this week, opening a new era under first-year coach Eric Morris when they hit the road to face Tulsa at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

They have more than 90 new players, a new coaching staff and way more expectations to turn things around after a loss to Tulsa a year ago forced a hard reset for the Pokes.

Those expectations begin with just winning a football game, a rare occurrence the past two seasons.

Scouting Tulsa

• 2025 Record: 4-8, 1-7 American Athletic Conference
• Best player: Former Classen SAS star Elijah Green is on the path to the NFL. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior cornerback was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award last season after he led the AAC with five interceptions, which was also seventh highest in the nation. Green has started 16 of 18 games in his career with the Golden Hurricane. Though he’s dealt with a non-ligament knee injury this preseason, he could be a huge problem for Mestemaker and Co. should he be healthy enough.
• The case for Tulsa: A year ago, the Golden Hurricane ended Mike Gundy’s tenure with an emphatic win at Boone Pickens Stadium, the highlight of its season. Tulsa will have that same kind of energy looking to ruin Morris’ debut. And if the duo of quarterback Baylor Hayes and Auburn transfer running back Damari Alston get hot and find ways to expose a rebuilt OSU defense, things can get dicey once again.
• The case for OSU: The rebuilt Cowboys will be amped up to put on a show and have way more talent than a year ago, particularly at quarterback with Drew Mestemaker. The talent advantage will almost always go to the Cowboys in this matchup, and this year they are built to not let that go to waste. OSU’s offense should put up some big numbers, even if there are first-game jitters and hiccups. Also, the Cowboys have not lost consecutive games to Tulsa since dropping three straight from 1950-52.
