South LA couple welcomes 19-pound triplets who came close to a world record

Elio, Elias and Enzo each weighed more than 6 pounds at birth — and arrived on their father’s birthday.
A South Los Angeles couple has plenty to celebrate after welcoming three new members to their family — and the timing made the arrival even more special.
Nyla Craft and Marco Bernal welcomed triplets Elio, Elias and Enzo on Aug. 18, which also happens to be their father’s birthday. The three boys weighed a combined 19.3 pounds, with each baby weighing more than 6 pounds, according to CBS Los Angeles.
Two of the brothers are identical twins, adding another remarkable detail to an already extraordinary birth.
For Craft, however, the numbers and circumstances surrounding the delivery took a back seat to one thing: knowing her babies were healthy.
“When I heard the first baby come out, I cried because I was just, ‘oh my gosh … he’s okay,’” Craft told CBS Los Angeles. “Then the second one then the third one, and I was just like, I heard them all crying at once, and I was like, ‘oh thank God, they are good.’”
The triplets join two older siblings, bringing the family to seven people — including five children under the age of 5.
The boys’ combined birth weight also attracted attention because it approached the range of notable triplet birth records. CBS Los Angeles described the delivery as nearing a world record, though the reported 19.3-pound total remains below the Guinness World Records mark for the heaviest triplets at birth.
For the family, though, a record was never the goal.
Dr. Rohit Passi, chief of neonatology at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center, visited the family after the babies came home and celebrated the successful delivery.
“We’re just so happy, this is the best part, seeing them out and sitting with the family and this is the reason we do what we do,” Passi said.
Now, Bernal and Craft are facing the beautiful chaos of raising five children under 5 — with three new sons who arrived on their father’s birthday and gave the family a celebration they’ll never forget.
