Dabo Swinney names Clemson's starting quarterback vs LSU

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have named Christopher Vizzina their starting quarterback for their Week 1 matchup with the LSU Tigers, according to Nick Coppola of the Greenville News.

Vizzina is entering his senior season wih Clemson and beat out true freshman Tait Reynolds for the starting job. However, Swinney made it clear that he was only naming Vizzina as the starter for this week, not the whole season. He explained to Coppola what it will take for him to lock up the starting job against LSU.

"Win. Win, be productive, take care of the ball, be a good decision maker, do the routine stuff well, manage the game," he said. "He doesn't have to be a superhero. Just needing to do his job within the system. I think that's the main thing."

Vizzina played in five games last season, making the first start of his season last year against the SMU Mustangs. It was the best game of the season with him, completing 29 of his 42 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 45 of his 71 passes for 406 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception during the 2025 season.

He has played in 14 games during his three seasons at Clemson, completing 61% of his passes for 596 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. He is now set to face the toughest test of his career, with Clemson and LSU set to kick off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, with the game airing nationally on ABC.
