The Penn State football team hopes for big things this upcoming season from transfer quarterback Rocco Becht. Becht transferred in from Iowa State, following his head coach Matt Campbell. After battling an injury in recent months, the quarterback says he is feeling good.
“Penn State QB Rocco Becht says he feels “100 percent healthy again” and is “back to my 2024 self,” when he threw for 3,505 yards and 25 TDs at Iowa State,” Sports Illustrated reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Becht underwent surgery in 2025, to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. He played through pain in 2025 for Iowa State. In 2024, he helped lead the Cyclones to the Big 12 championship game.

“His leadership and his humility and just his toughness and grit were huge pieces of why we had the success we did [at Iowa State],” Penn State head coach Matt Campbell said, per the outlet. “Some of the greatest moments in the program’s history are under Rocco.”
Rocco Becht is ready for a new chapter at Penn State
Campbell and Becht will now hope to lead the Nittany Lions to the top of the Big Ten standings in 2026. Penn State fired former head coach James Franklin, in the midst of the 2025 season.
Becht is ready to go as a starting quarterback in a new conference. He is the son of former New York Jets tight end Anthony Becht.
“I would say my spring went really good,” Becht said following spring practices. “In the beginning, I wasn’t able to do a lot on the field, so I think building that chemistry in the film room and being a leader on and off the field for me was a huge step. I thought I had a good spring to develop in that way, develop in the offense, learn more of the protections, learn the run game, and I think I did a really good job of that.”
Penn State kicks off their 2026 campaign with a game against Marshall on Saturday.
