Florida State 2027 Class Breakdown: Make-or-Break season underway for the Seminoles

Not many are giving Florida State a puncher’s chance this season. It’s a make-or-break fall for the Mike Norvell era and the Seminoles are 1-0 after a win over New Mexico State. How the rest of the year goes will certainly have an impact on the ACC program’s 2027 recruiting class.

As of Sept. 1, FSU has the No. 30 class in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That would be its lowest-ranked class since the 2005 cycle. There are currently 17 total commits in the mix, six of whom are four-stars.

The class headliner is Macon (Ga.) Howard four-star Ta’Shawn Poole, the nation’s No. 5 safety and No. 7 senior prospect in the Peach State. The ‘Noles beat out Tennessee and Georgia in what was a hotly-contested recruitment.

“The culture, the tradition and the relationships I have with all the coaches,” Poole told Rivals’ Chad Simmons about why he picked FSU. “My aunt is an alum, too. That was not a big part of the decision, but it feels great now. I just have great relationships with everybody there. My connections with the coaches at Florida State were different.”

Official visit season was hectic and the month of June brought eight commitments for the ACC program. Poplarville (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune and St. Frances Academy (Md.) four-star safety Jernard Albright were among the summer pledges.

The former is a top-15 D-lineman and top-five senior prospect in Mississippi this cycle. The latter flipped from South Carolina after taking his official visit to Tallahassee. Albright has transferred from Effingham County (Ga.) to Maryland prep powerhouse SFA for his senior season.

Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County four-star wide receiver Sean Green and Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic four-star running back Jayden Miles also committed after getting back to campus in June. The top-ranked in-state commit in the class is Largo (Fla.) Indian Rocks Christian three-star EDGE Anthony Cavallaro.

In total, there’s 10 defensive prospects in the class, leaving five on the offensive side, as well as one “athlete” and a kicker. The class also ranks sixth in the ACC, behind Miami, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Cal and Georgia Tech. Below is an updated look at FSU’s 2027 haul, broken down by position:
