Paul Finebaum rips LSU football coach Lane Kiffin for constant ‘flat-out lies’

One of college football’s most polarizing figures is none other than LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin. Though he has worked over the years to repair his image, his actions over the past calendar year suggest he may still be the same-old Kiffin.
He ditched Ole Miss in the middle of a College Football Playoff run and is now fighting to get former NFL players on his roster. One prominent college football analyst ripped into Kiffin for what he believes is the coach’s signature trait: lying.

Paul Finebaum appeared on ESPN’s First Take and blasted the LSU head coach for what he views as constant lies and deception whenever Kiffin gets in front of a microphone.

“Every day Lane Kiffin shows up with another lie. That’s what I said. It’s not a falsehood, it’s not being misleading, it’s not being hyperbolic. It’s just a flat-out lie because that’s who he is. It doesn’t surprise me. I still like the guy. I find him engaging, sometimes charming – not always – but most of all he’s a really good football coach. But just quit all this nonsense. You’ve got a game this weekend,” Finebaum said.
Finebaum’s comments came as Kiffin continues to navigate questions about LSU’s roster. Specifically the use of former NFL players with remaining eligibility. Kiffin has been outspoken about the changing landscape of college football, particularly as programs navigate the transfer portal and the ability to add experienced players.
“I don’t believe that on your roster, your second- and third-teamers that probably aren’t on your leadership council are saying: ‘Yeah, bring in some guy from the Cleveland Browns to take my spot that I’ve been killing myself for my entire life. Yeah, I’m just going to roll over and let this guy, Wright, come in here and take my spot and sing kumbaya.’ It’s just not believable. But when has Lane Kiffin said anything that was?”
Finebaum’s criticism highlights the growing tension surrounding Kiffin’s roster-building philosophy. Kiffin remains one of the most respected offensive minds in college football. However, his outspoken personality and willingness to challenge convention have continued to make him a lightning rod.
Whether fans agree with Finebaum or not, the criticism adds another layer to the scrutiny surrounding Kiffin as he begins his tenure at LSU.
