Welcome to the Morning Five, a quick hit of Bulldog facts to get your day started right. This morning we’re looking at five statistically-adjacent nuggets about this weekend’s Bulldog opponent, the Tennessee State Tigers. Let’s dive in.
- Two. That’s the number of victories the Tennessee State Tigers notched last year. There are good FCS teams. Teams you genuinely need to take seriously or they will make you regret it. I do. It think these Tigers are one of those.
- One. That is the number of games Tennessee State has already lost this season after dropping their opener last weekend to Jackson State. That said the game was close (26-24), and the Tigers do have the benefit of having laced them up and played a live action game.
- 265. That’s the number of passing yards Tiger QB Daylin Lee had in a pretty tidy outing in the opener. Lockhart was 23 of 41 passing and didn’t throw a pick. The Winston-Salem State transfer is a sturdy 6’2, 225 and while Coach Reggie Barlow likes a run-pass option heavy attack, Lee only ran for 85 yards last season. I’m not sure he’s a huge threat on the ground.
- 12. That’s the number of scholarship defensive tackles on the Bulldog roster following the departure of Xzavier McLeod earlier this week. And Tray Scott very well may play every single one of them on Saturday because…
- 96. That’s the forecast temperature in Athens at kickoff time Saturday. I don’t bet on college football precisely because I watch so much of it. But if you’ve got a degenerate streak you may be interested to know that the line on Saturday’s game is Georgia -47.5, which looks like free money to me precisely because Kirby may just kneel out the 4th quarter if they let him.
