A long, hot summer is almost over, and we are now just three days away from the start of the 2026 Kentucky football season. As we count down the days until game one, we are getting to now the players on the roster, and today we're taking a look at No. 3, Kenny Minchey.
Minchey is a 6'2" 211 lb quarterback out of Hendersonville, Tennessee. A member of the 2023 recruiting class, he was rated four stars by 247Sports and ranked as their No. 169 overall player.
The highly decorated thrower had a number of offers out of high school. He committed to Notre Dame over offers from Michigan State, Virginia Tech, the Tennessee Volunteers, and others.
With the Fighting Irish, Minchey redshirted in 2023, and played little in 2024, though he scored his first touchdown. Last year, he didn't win the starting job, but coaches praised his play, saying it was a very close competition. He did play in several games, and had 20 completions for 196 yards. However, with a path to starting blocked, he entered the transfer portal.
Will Stein gained a commitment from Minchey after speaking to his former coaching staff who are convinced he can be a great QB. His ability to throw the ball accurately to all levels, as well as create plays with his legs make him dangerous, and opens up what Kentucky can do on offense.
There is a lot of anticipation from fans eager to see what Minchey can do. If he's everything his former coaches said he is, then the Wildcats are in good hands.
