Politicians Urging SEC To Kick LSU Out Of The Conference

Politicians and some school administrators are pushing the SEC to consider kicking LSU out of the conference.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has added former NFL players to the Tigers’ roster for 2026. He maintains that he’ll attempt to play the former NFL players if the courts allow it. Kiffin says that LSU’s players are on board.

“Every one of them was emphatic about, ‘If they can help us win, bring ’em,'” Kiffin told reporters Monday at his weekly news conference. “We understand we have a team that’s practiced together and worked together all offseason, but one of them said, ‘Hey, this is how it works at the next level, and this is how the real world works.’ So that made me feel a little better in the struggle and being torn back and forth.”

Kiffin’s final roster is due to the SEC on Friday. The Tigers open the season against Clemson on Saturday night.

But as LSU pushes forward, a politician out of Georgia is pushing for the SEC to consider drastic action.

Georgia attorney general Christopher Carr sent an official letter to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey.

“If LSU does in fact roster one or more pro athletes or demonstrates concrete plans to do so, we would strongly encourage the SEC to take all measures available to address this conduct, up to and including suspending and/or removing LSU from the Conference,” the letter reads.

SEC school executives pushing for similar move

Some SEC school executives are pushing for the league to consider a dismissal from the conference, as well.

“SEC school executives are exploring extreme measures over LSU adding former professional players,” On3 reported, per Ross Dellenger.

“Including boycotting competition, placing LSU on probation, expelling the school from the SEC, and pursuing a federal legal challenge.”

LSU is one of the most historic football programs in the SEC, winning four national titles, including three (2003, 2007, 2019) this century.
