Georgia football could have a major new weapon in wide receiver Isiah Canion, with the Georgia Tech transfer drawing strong reviews ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Tennessee State.
Canion joined the Bulldogs in January after two seasons at Georgia Tech and projects as Georgia’s starting X receiver. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior caught 33 passes for 480 yards and four touchdowns last season, including four receptions for 54 yards against Georgia.
In an article published Thursday, On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos identified the 20-year-old pass-catcher as a transfer to watch in Week 1 and highlighted the reviews surrounding him throughout the offseason.

“If you’re looking for a transfer to keep tabs on in Week 1, circle Georgia wide receiver Isiah Canion. The Bulldogs added the Georgia Tech transfer in January, and On3 has continued to hear rave reviews this offseason. Viewed as a speedster, he can fill the “Colbie Young-type role.”
Canion gives the Bulldogs a combination of size and speed after the Bulldogs lost Colbie Young, Zachariah Branch, Dillon Bell, and Noah Thomas from last season’s receiving corps. He remains Georgia’s only transfer-portal addition at receiver.
The Warner Robins, Georgia, native recorded 39 catches for 563 yards and four touchdowns across two seasons at Georgia Tech. He missed time during the spring with an ankle injury before returning for fall camp.
Georgia finished 12-2 last season, capturing a second straight SEC championship before Ole Miss ended its run with a 39-34 CFP quarterfinal win in the Sugar Bowl.
Canion will get his first live opportunity with Georgia on Saturday against Tennessee State at Sanford Stadium. His debut should provide an early indication of how quickly he can carve out a significant role in the offense.
The Georgia Tech transfer also brings needed experience to the perimeter as the Bulldogs work several new faces into the receiving rotation. Georgia will quickly find out whether Canion can turn those offseason reviews into meaningful production in a revamped receiving room.
