Florida Closing in on Top Receiver Recruit

The Florida Gators enter the season with wide receiver as one of its strengths on the roster for first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.
Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III, and Eric Singleton Jr. will provide starting quarterback Aaron Philo with a talented trio of targets.
The Gators are looking to boost their receiver corps for the future, and it appears a 2028 recruit is closing in on choosing Florida.
Per Corey Bender of GatorsOnline, Florida seems to have the best chance to land wide receiver Tyree Manning Jr. in 2028. Per Rivals, Manning is currently No. 13 receiver and No. 88 overall prospect for the 2028 class.
It appears Florida receiver Marcus Davis is a huge draw for Manning. That should be no surprise, as Sumrall was excited to add him to his staff this year.
"Coach Davis not only brings SEC coaching experience to our staff, but playing experience as well," Sumrall said, via the Gators.
"He's a Florida native who was a team captain and has produced as both a player and coach. There's no doubt Coach Davis will prove to be a great addition for us."
In 2025, Venice High School wide receivers coach Amarri Jackson, a cousin of Manning and former NFL player, told yoursun.com that Manning is one of the more talented players he's coached.
“Talent-wise, Tyree was always one of those kids that just had it,” Jackson said. “He was always a standout player.
"Whether it was at quarterback, running back, safety, kick returner, he could always do anything on the field. I don’t think anybody from the community we grew up in is surprised to see what he’s doing now.”
That playmaking ability could be huge for Florida if he decides to officially commit to moving to Gainesville.
The Gators will need athletic receivers and dynamic returns to compete with the SEC and make a run for the College Football Playoff.
There is no doubt that Manning and other recruits will be paying attention to how Florida does during the regular season. That could wind up factoring into where they decide to play football.
