Key FSU commit placed on flip watch with SEC program pushing

The FSU Seminoles secured a major win on the recruiting trail back in July when they landed a commitment from four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson, beating out several major programs to do so.

Shortly after he committed, Johnson announced his recruitment was shut down, something several of FSU's commits did. However, one school has continued to recruit the Opa Locka, Florida product, and his recruitment no longer appears to be over.

Johnson is set to unofficially visit the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend, and Zach Blostein of 247Sports believes he is on flip watch and that "Texas A&M is making a move."

He is FSU's fifth-highest-ranked commit in the 2027 recruiting class, checking in as the No. 344 overall player and No. 21 athlete in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 31 player from Florida.

While FSU has proximity on its side, Texas A&M has several advantages. The Aggies have enjoyed tremendous success recruiting the state of Florida recently, landing five of the state's top eight players this cycle. They have also had far more success on the field, going 19-7 over the past two seasons compared to FSU's 7-17.

While Johnson is listed as an athlete, he is expected to play in the secondary at the next level. The Seminoles currently have two safeties committed in four-star prospect Ta'Shawn Poole and three-star prospect Jemari Foreman; they do not have any cornerbacks committed.
