Elite Virginia Tech commitment visiting Georgia football

Virginia Tech Hokies cornerback commitment Chase Johnson is visiting (subscription required) the Georgia Bulldogs for Georgia's season opener against the Tennessee State Tigers. Johnson is one of many talented recruits that are visiting Georgia for the Bulldogs' first regular season football game in Sanford Stadium in 2026.

Johnson originally committed to Virginia Tech in May. He also considered Louisville and Florida State. Johnson is a Peach State product and member of the class of 2027. The three-star defensive back plays high school football for Emmanuel County Institute in Swainsboro, Georgia.

Johnson is ranked as the No. 451 recruit in the country, the No. 42 cornerback and the No. 55 player in Georgia, per 247Sports. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound cornerback needs at add weight to his frame before playing at the next level.

Cornerback is a position of need for Georgia. The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart have no cornerback commitments in the class of 2027 despite having 20 total commitments. UGA has the No. 9 recruiting class in the nation and has two commitments at safety. Virginia Tech and coach James Franklin have the No. 15 recruiting class in the country with 26 commitments.
