No. 8 Texas A&M will face off against Missouri State for the first time on Saturday, aiming to start its third season under head coach Mike Elko as it means to go on. The Aggies hit 11 wins last year for the first time since 2012, but a first-round exit to Miami in the College Football Playoff wasn’t how they envisioned the season ending.
The Bears are in the second half of their two-year transition to the FBS and return to the Conference USA, with Casey Woods taking over from Ryan Beard at the helm. And like Woods, a lot of the Missouri State roster is new to the program after last year’s performance saw a lot of talent exit in one way or another.
Luckily for Saturday’s visiting team, the same can be said for Texas A&M in several areas. The offensive line, for starters, has a lone familiar face returning in starting center Mark Nabou, while a handful of players from the defensive unit made the jump up to the NFL, including the tackle duo of Tyler Onyedim (Denver Broncos) and Albert Regis (Jacksonville Jaguars).
That being said, one name returning for Aggies football this season is quarterback Marcel Reed, who has plenty of pressure on his shoulders to engineer some magic this year. If anyone has the potential to fashion a charge at SEC greatness in 2026, it’s Reed, who has a full complement of receiver talent he’s already familiar with, along with new additions Isaiah Horton (transferred from Alabama) and freshman Madden Williams.
