College football: UNH overmatched in 66-3 loss to Syracuse

SYRACUSE — Trevor Barry recorded a game-high 11 tackles, including a sack, but the University of New Hampshire football team opened its season with a 66-3 loss to Syracuse on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Barry finished with three solo tackles and eight assists, while Jackson Stone added a career-high eight tackles for the Wildcats.

UNH's lone points came on a 46-yard field goal by Lucas Glassburn after Joquez Smith broke free for a 46-yard run. Smith finished with 64 rushing yards on eight carries.

Quarterback Brooks Bentley completed 11 of 18 passes for 75 yards, while Tommy McLeish threw for 24 yards in relief. Myles Thomason led the Wildcats with 76 all-purpose yards, including seven catches for 53 yards.

Shavane Anderson Jr. rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns for Syracuse, while quarterback Steve Angeli threw for 263 yards and three scores.

UNH fell to 0-2 with the defeat.

UNH returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12 for its home opener against Stonehill. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:03 p.m.
