Cardale Jones: College Football Must Fix 'Horrible' Officiating

Week 1 of the 2026 college football regular season will wrap up this weekend.

The first weekend of the 2026 college football regular season has been highlighted by Michigan’s controversial win over Western Michigan, blowouts from Ohio State, Texas, LSU and others, and Oregon’s squeaking out of a victory over Boise State.

Officiating, once again, was a story.

There were controversial calls in Boise State’s loss to Oregon and Michigan’s epic pullout win over Western Michigan.

Cardale Jones says that college football needs to fix the “horrible” officiating moving forward.

“Another year of college football, another year of horrible refs. Completely stole this one from the broncos,” one fan wrote.

College football fans agree with Jones

“I think everyone watching and on the field would have agreed that the game was over. Michigan wouldn’t have even argued. That play should have never been reviewed,” one fan wrote.

“My brother said death, taxes, and bad refs. Now I’m thinking the last one is the most sure…,” one fan added.

“That was absolutely the WORST call. The WORST!!! Is there any appeal process? There very clearly wasn’t any time left!” one fan added.

“It’s gotten so bad they don’t even care if there’s video evidence in front to millions of witnesses… pathetic,” one fan added.

“So disappointing,” one fan added.

College football has a lot of problems, but officiating is top among them, and it’s clear that the sport needs to do what it can to fix these issues moving forward.
