Where Texas A&M sits in ESPN FPI rankings after defeating Mo State

No. 8 Texas A&M (1-0) opened the 2026 season with a 50-0 shutout win over Missouri State, and even though the Aggies' revamped offensive line struggled in the first half, allowing two sacks and multiple pressures, third-year coach Mike Elko and OL coach Adam Cushing made the necessary changes that resulted in a much better second-half performance.

Texas A&M's defense allowed just 67 yards and currently looks like one of the best units in the country before hosting Arizona State on Saturday.

Redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed's impressive preseason translated to Saturday, as the Tennessee native completed 20/31 for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns, and even when the O-line broke down, Reed's elusive running style came in handy, while his accuracy and touch on nearly every throw, paired with much better decison making post-snap proved that the hard work he put in this offseason has, so far, paid off.

After defeating Missouri State, Texas A&M rose one spot to No. 10 in ESPN's Football Power Index with a rating of 21.3. The Aggies are currently the fifth highest-ranked SEC team, trailing only Alabama (No. 9), LSU (No. 7), Georgia (No. 5), and Texas at No. 1. Texas A&M will face LSU and Alabama on the road before hosting Texas at the end of the regular season.

Following Saturday's win, ESPN's FPI also currently projects Texas A&M's win-loss record at 8.3-3.8, and a 0.5% chance to win out. Other current Alabama percentages, per ESPN's FPI, include 7.0% to win the SEC, 40.2% to make the College Football Playoff, and 3.4% to win the national championship.
