Ohio State vs Texas ticket prices highlight anticipation for Week 2 showdown

College football is already beginning to pivot toward Week 2, and plenty of high-stakes matchups are on tap. However, the biggest battle ahead is a Saturday night showdown in Austin, Texas.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are set to travel to the home of the Texas Longhorns to complete their home-and-home series. Last year, Ohio State suffocated the Texas offense and got the Longhorns off to a rocky start. Now, Texas will look to return the favor against the Buckeyes.

Understandably, it is going to be one hot ticket to acquire. After all, these are two premier College Football Playoff contenders. The get-in-the-stadium price is astronomical, especially for the average fan.

According to ticket listings as of Monday morning, a fan can witness the Arch Manning-Julian Sayin duel for the price of $522 for one ticket. That goes to show just how anticipated this early-season matchup is.

Heavyweight battle of two contenders

This matchup has all the makings of a College Football Playoff or National Championship preview. Both Ohio State and Texas enter the game ranked among the nation’s top five teams, meaning the stakes are much higher than a typical Week 2 matchup.

Ohio State enters the season with another championship-caliber roster and will look to prove that last year’s dominant win over Texas was no fluke. The Buckeyes have the talent on both sides of the ball to make another deep playoff run, but this road test will provide an early measuring stick.

Texas, meanwhile, has plenty of motivation after last year’s loss. The Longhorns will have home-field advantage and an opportunity to make an early statement against one of the nation’s best teams. Manning also adds another layer of intrigue as he prepares to lead Texas into one of its biggest games of the season.

Both teams also have Heisman candidate-worth talent at wide receiver. Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith is already a massive favorite. Texas’ prized transfer portal acquisition Cam Coleman should put himself in te conversation this year.

With two top-five teams, two highly touted quarterbacks, elite wide receivers, and legitimate national championship aspirations, Saturday night’s showdown could have major implications well beyond Week 2. It may also give fans an early glimpse at two teams that could meet again when the College Football Playoff rolls around.
