The Washington Huskies began the season 1-0 after beating cross-state rivals, the Washington State Cougars, 24-10 in the 118th Apple Cup on Sunday at Husky Stadium in Seattle.

Despite coming out on the winning end in front of a sold-out home crowd of over 70,000, the Huskies weren't wholly satisfied by their performance Sunday.

Several Washington players and coaches, despite being happy with the win, weren't completely satisfied with the team's performance. The common feeling expressed by the team is that the Huskies, who scored only 10 points through three quarters, left a lot of points on the board and that penalties (12 for 130 yards) gave the Cougars more points than they would have had otherwise.

It seems like voters for the Associated Press Top 25 poll weren't completely impressed by the performance, either.

In the latest poll from the AP, which was released Tuesday, Washington fell two spots from its preseason ranking of No. 17 to No. 19.

The Huskies were leapfrogged by Big Ten rival Penn State (No. 18 to No. 16) as well as the ACC's SMU (No. 19 to No. 17) and the SEC's Tennessee (No. 20 to No. 18).

Among teams in the Big Ten, Washington ranks sixth. Ohio State (No. 1), Indiana (No. 5), Oregon (No. 6), Southern California (No. 14) and Penn State are the teams ranked ahead of the Huskies in the conference.

Washington will have more than enough opportunities in the coming weeks to regain their previous spot and rise on the AP poll.

The Huskies will take on the Utah State Aggies at 12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday at Husky Stadium. The Aggies lost to Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team, the Idaho State Bengals, 29-17 on Sept. 5.

Washington will wrap up its nonconference schedule against another FCS team, the Eastern Washington Eagles, at 4:15 p.m. PT on Sept. 19 at Husky Stadium.

If the Huskies dominate both remaining nonconference games, as they're expected to, they'll be in good position going into its Big Ten slate.

Washington will play the first of its nine-game conference schedule at a to-be-determined time on Sept. 26 at Husky Stadium. After their game against the Golden Gophers, the Huskies will have back-to-back contests against currently-ranked teams in the Big Ten.

UW will play USC on the road in Los Angeles on Oct. 3 and will return home to Husky Stadium to play No. 21 Iowa at 6 p.m. PT on Oct. 9.
