College football bowl projections move LSU into CFP, drop Ole Miss ahead of Week 2

Week 1 of the college football season always is a reminder of how little we know after months of studying player movement and the strength of teams in the race for the College Football Playoff.
Oregon looked like one of the best teams in the country before the first ball was kicked. The Ducks struggled to beat Boise State. LSU was thought to be behind the upper echelon of the SEC. The Tigers went out and dominated Clemson in one of the best performances of the weekend.
It's also important to remember that Week 1 isn't the ultimate barometer of how the season will play out. Some teams will get drastically better. Others will regress.
However, the first full weekend did create some significant changes to the USA TODAY Sports bowl projections. LSU does rise into College Football Playoff position. The Tigers supplant Mississippi. Should the Rebels feel disrespected, they'll have their change to change minds in Week 3 when they face LSU on home soil.
There's some seeding changes among the other contenders – many of whom did not face challenges in their opener. It's a wait-and-see approach on the analysis of how some of these teams in the top 10 will fare that won't be determined until the competition gets more difficult.
With all that said, here's where the postseason picture stands heading into an important Week 2 that will give us a better view of what the season may look like.
