Deion Sanders delivers blunt warning after Colorado football win

Colorado football spent Tuesday moving on from its dramatic road win at Georgia Tech, and Deion Sanders made sure the message inside the program was clear.

The Buffaloes are 1-0 after their 14-13 comeback win in Atlanta. Still, Sanders told his team that an undefeated record in early September does not separate them from the rest of college football.

"Y’all think y’all doing something, right?" Sanders said. "How you doing something when it's 84 others with the same record? You ain't done nothing."

Sanders' message came as Colorado began preparing for Weber State. The Buffaloes escaped Georgia Tech behind Julian Lewis' late touchdown throw to Charlie Williams and Boo Carter's blocked field goal on the final play. The win ended Colorado's seven-game road losing streak and gave the team an early boost after last year's 3-9 finish.

Sanders didn't let the finish in Atlanta become a reason for his players to relax.

A 1-0 record changes nothing

Colorado earned the win with a more physical approach than fans saw in recent seasons. The Buffaloes rushed for 183 yards, held Georgia Tech to 48 rushing yards and controlled possession for more than 34 minutes.

The opener also revealed issues Colorado must address. Lewis completed 13 of 27 passes for 124 yards, the Buffaloes allowed a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown and a fourth-quarter field-goal try was blocked.

Sanders' warning speaks directly to those details. Colorado found a way to finish, but the film will give the coaching staff plenty to correct before Week 2.

Weber State is next

Colorado hosts Weber State at Folsom Field on Sept. 12. Sanders wants his team focused on building consistency instead of looking back at one dramatic finish.

The Buffaloes have a road win and a young quarterback who delivered early and late evidence of improvement on both the offensive and defensive lines. Sanders said Tuesday that his standard remains higher than one win.
