Memphis heads to Idaho for another massive non-conference game on Saturday against Boise State. Both teams enter the game with their sights set on a College Football Playoff run, and this game could play a big role in which team has the upper hand.

The Broncos enter the game after losing to Oregon by a touchdown in week 1. Spencer Danielson’s team led the Ducks, who were ranked No. 2 in the AP poll, at the half, but Oregon scored 20 points in the second half to record the home victory.

Danielson is in his third season as the full-time head coach after he was promoted to interim head coach in 2023 following the termination of Andy Avalos. The head coach holds a 24-9 record, including the 12-2 CFP season in 2024.

Boise State made the move during the offseason from the Mountain West to the PAC-12, and it’s the overwhelming favorite to win the conference. Danielson’s team won three-straight conference championships, and they’ll look to win the first conference title in the new-look PAC-12.

The Broncos’ offense returns a lot of production on the offensive side of the ball, including quarterback Maddux Madsen. The quarterback has been with the program for five seasons at Boise State, and he’s thrown for 6,767 yards, 53 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

In the first game against Oregon, he threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns, but he completed only 51.7 percent of his throws. The biggest stat was no turnovers, especially after the Tigers recorded four interceptions against Arkansas State.

The Broncos return their top two leading rushers from last season, including 1,000-yard back Dylan Riley. The junior running back ran for 1,125 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, and he recorded 50 yards on 17 carries against the Ducks.

Redshirt sophomore Sire Gaines ran for 811 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025, and he recorded 39 yards on 11 attempts this season.

The receiving room features some new faces, and true freshman Radeon Jones led the team with 76 yards on four receptions last week.

The offensive line returns three starters from last year’s team, and they put up a good showing against Oregon’s defensive line.

Defensively, Boise State returns four starters from last year’s team, and they allowed 497 yards of total offense last week. The Ducks threw for 378 yards and ran for 119 yards.

Defensive backs Jaden Mickey and Jerico Washington Jr. combined for 2.5 tackles for loss, but as a team, the Broncos finished with only one sack. Linebacker Bol Bol recorded the only sack, while sophomore defensive back Travis Anderson led the team with 11 total tackles.

The game is scheduled for Saturday evening at 5 p.m. central time and will be broadcast on USA Network.
