Grading Georgia after Western Kentucky game: What earned As, what needs work

Georgia football easily handled Western Kentucky with a 70-20 blowout win Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

Grading a team that has dominated the first two opponents isn't easy.

Go ahead and call us an easy grader, but the Bulldogs look very much like the No. 2 team in the country.

Offense grade: A+

Gunner Stockton tied a Georgia touchdown passing record with five on a day he was 13 of 16 for 234 yards and five TDs. Freshman Craig Dandridge continues to impress. He had two catches for 56 yards. Five different players had TD catches. Nate Frazier led with 55 rushing yards and a TD on five carries.

Freshman Ekene Ogboko continues to get inserted at right tackle in the first half for snaps. Georgia had five fumbles but lost two.

Defense grade: B+

Georgia had three tackles for loss on WKU’s first eight offensive plays. Gabe Harris had a key second down sack to take WKU out of field goal range. Demello Jones had an interception return nearly for a touchdown. Tyriq Green recovered a fumble after a Blake Stewart interception for a touchdown. WKU got two touchdowns runs by backup QB Brock Glenn. The defense gave up two TDS in the final 5:10.

Special teams grade: B+

Georgia set the tone when AJ Kruah forced a fumble on the opening kickoff and got good field position later in the first quarter when Sacovie White Helton had 23 yards on two returns and was interfered with on another. Drew Miller averaged 46 yards on four punts. Tyriq Green's 91-yard kickoff return touchdown was Georgia's first since 2016. Landon Roldan fumbled a punt return.

Coaching grade: A

Georgia hasn’t been content to just take a win in a buy game. It has made the opposing team pay in beatdowns in two straight weeks. Georgia had five penalties for 46 yards, down from eight for 85 last week

Game MVP Gunner Stockton tied a Georgia record with five touchdown passes and still hasn’t thrown an interception this season. He averaged 18 yards per completion.

Overall team grade: A

Georgia outgained WKU 308-32 by the time Gunner Stockton left the game. WKU’s longest play on offense went for 16 yards. The only reason this isn’t an A+ is this WKU team was also blown out by Nevada last week.
