Clemson coach Dabo Swinney shares unjust update on QB Christopher Vizzina

Clemson’s quarterback situation will be worth watching closely over the next several days.

Christopher Vizzina was unable to finish Saturday’s 22-7 victory over Georgia Southern after taking a hit that left him without feeling in his left arm. The senior quarterback played only three possessions before true freshman Tait Reynolds took over the offense.

Dabo Swinney explained afterward that Reynolds entering the game was not initially injury-related. Clemson had already decided the freshman would get the fourth series.

The problem came when the Tigers were ready to turn things back over to Vizzina.

“He took a shot on his left arm, so hopefully that’ll settle down,” Swinney said.

Vizzina’s arm remained numb, preventing Clemson from putting him back on the field. Swinney did not offer a timetable afterward and said it was too early to know whether the issue could linger.

“I don’t know,” Swinney said. “Again, we wanted to get him back in there, but his left arm was numb, basically.”

“Hopefully it’s nothing bad,” Swinney added.

Vizzina had an uneven start before exiting. He completed four of his seven attempts for 19 yards and found T.J. Moore for a 10-yard touchdown that opened the scoring in the first quarter.

His final pass ended in an interception on a deep throw.

Clemson’s offense produced just 31 total yards across the 11 snaps Vizzina played, with Reynolds handling the quarterback duties for the remainder of the afternoon.

The attention now turns to Vizzina’s status ahead of Clemson’s next game. The Tigers remain in Death Valley next Saturday for a noon matchup with North Carolina on ESPN.
