Texas A&M rises in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after defeating ASU

Texas A&M (2-0) shouldn't be considered a College Football Playoff contender, at least right now, after Saturday's 48-20 win over Arizona State, as coach Mike Elko's defense saved the Aggies from potential embarrassment, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed's three touchdowns and timely offense kept A&M from trailing the entire game, even after ASU QB Cutter Boley connected with WR Reed Harris for a 58-yard touchdown to make it 24-20 in the third quarter.
However, the tide completely turned after Marcel Reed's 30-plus-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Mario Craver, followed by Texas A&M punter Tyler White's muffed exchange, as sophomore Edge Marco Jones picked off Cutter Boley, recording the first of two pick-six scores before cornerback Julio Humphrey's interception return late in the fourth quarter.
Texas A&M's offense produced just 255 yards and 92 rushing yards, including Marcel Reed's 163 passing yards and first interception of the year, which is, and will never be, good enough for a team looking to make it back to the CFP after last season's historic run; and if the offensive line does not fix its issues in pass protection and opening up holes in the running game, it could be a long season in College Station.
Texas A&M's next opponent, Kentucky, led Alabama early before the Crimson Tide's defense absolutely smothered the Wildcats in the second half, leaving Kroger Field with a 45-17 road victory. Around the rest of the SEC, the Texas Longhorns' epic comeback 24-23 win over Ohio State after trailing 20-3 will likely vault A&M's rival to No. 2 or the top spot in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.
Which teams will drop? Oregon's stunning loss at Oklahoma State and Oklahoma's 17-10 road defeat to Michigan will certainly shake things up before Week 3.
