Texas replaces Notre Dame at No. 1 in college football's NCAA Re-Rank 1-138

Texas supplants Notre Dame as the No. 1 team in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138 after a thrilling comeback against Ohio State.

Down 23-3 heading into the fourth quarter, Arch Manning and the Longhorns put together three extended scoring drives to steal a 24-23 win. This victory could stand up as the best by any team in the Bowl Subdivision during the regular season.

Even if the Buckeyes were in control for much of Saturday night, the Longhorns’ performance down the stretch warrants the move ahead of the Fighting Irish, who have dominated Wisconsin and Rice to open the season.

The Buckeyes drop to No. 6. Filling the blanks are the No. 2 Irish, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Indiana and No. 5 Miami. Ohio State remains ahead of No. 7 LSU after a dominant win against Clemson in the opener was devalued even further by the Tigers’ struggles against Georgia Southern.

There were a few moves inside the top 25, including four new members in No. 18 Michigan, No. 21 Duke, No. 22 Missouri and No. 25 James Madison. After falling in the re-rank on the heels of a controversial win against No. 40 Western Michigan, the Wolverines are back up thanks to a 17-10 victory against No. 24 Oklahoma, which dropped 15 spots.

No. 30 Oregon is way, way down after losing 39-31 to Oklahoma State. The Ducks have not looked the part of a College Football Playoff contender or Big Ten favorite, let alone a team worthy of the top 25.
