Texas A&M's 48-20 win over Arizona State in Week 2 also served as another recruiting opportunity for coach Mike Elko and his staff, as the Aggies are reportedly close to landing their third commitment in the 2028 recruiting cycle, as the brother of current freshman running back KJ Edwards, 2028 three-star wide receiver/defensive back JD Edwards, has received multiple predictions to land with the Aggies.

According to AggieYell insiders Jaxson Callaway and Joseph Hastings, JD Edwards' commitment date has yet to be announced, but the assumption is that he will be the Aggies' third commitment, joining five-star quarterback Donald Tabron III and four-star edge rusher Chance Archangel.

Texas A&M's No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class features six five-star commitments, led by offensive tackle Mark Matthews and safety Kamarui Dorsey, who are expected to compete for starting jobs before the 2027 season. This weekend, the Aggies hosted a long list of blue-chip prospects in the 2028 and 2029 cycles, while JD Edwards was also in town after visiting during A&M's season-opening win over Missouri State.

One of the top playmakers in Texas, Edwards is only considered a three-star prospect due to his size at 5'9" and 150 pounds, while the Aggies will contend with Cincinnati, LSU, and SMU, who have also fielded offers. During his 2025 sophomore season, Edwards reeled in 50 receptions for 738 yards and six touchdowns, combined with two kickoff touchdowns.
