FSU falls in USA TODAY Sports' college football re-rank despite bye

Florida State football remains 1-1 overall and 0-1 in ACC play after a bye week. Ultimately, the Seminoles fell in their last game to the SMU Mustangs, 27-24. The schedule will only get tougher beginning with this week's opponent, No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide.

After the bye, Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports moved Florida State down to No. 51 in his weekly re-rank of all 138 FBS teams. He moved them down one spot from No. 50 last week.

Surrounding the Seminoles are the No. 50 Navy Midshipmen and No. 52 Colorado Buffaloes. The Midshipmen went 11-2 last season, defeating Cincinnati in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. Colorado went 3-9 and did not make an appearance in a bowl game.

Florida State is the eighth-best ACC team per Myerberg's rankings, behind the Miami Hurricanes at No. 5. SMU is not far behind at No. 17. The Mustangs rose two spots in this week's poll after defeating UC Davis.

FSU will look to improve when they travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa for a rematch against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the game on ABC.
