LSU head coach praises true freshman defensive tackle after Week 2 breakout

Deuce Geralds burst onto the scene for LSU football two weeks Ito the season. He impressed against Louisiana Tech and head coach Lane Kiffin took notice, praising the true freshman defensive tackle.

"Deuce did a great job, made some really good plays," Kiffin said. "[I'm] really most proud of his strip. He'd do those drills all the time, not just with the skilled players, but the D-line. To come in and get that was awesome and he's done a great job."

Geralds posted five tackles, four stops, four pressures, a sack and a forced fumble in 29 stops against the Bulldogs. Early in the first quarter, he sacked Blake Baker on third-and-five on a swim move maneuver around a blocker. While defending a screen, he pushed through and knocked the ball out of the running back's hand for an LSU fumble recovery.

While the Tigers faced a lower-level opponent in Louisiana Tech, Geralds performed exceptionally well for it being just the second collegiate game of his career. Kiffin acknowledged that he will be challenged with tougher competition, as will the rest of the defensive line, especially against Ole Miss on Saturday.

"We're going to play one of the best teams in the country and I would say the most explosive set of two players in the country, in the running back and quarterback," Kiffin said. "Everybody's got to do their job, especially up front."
