The North Carolina Tar Heels are off to a solid start to their 2026 college football season, having won both of their first two games. North Carolina football will be going for win No. 3 on Saturday, when they go up against the Clemson Tigers for their first game in ACC play, but Bill Belichick’s team could also be missing one of its best players.
Tar Heels senior Melkart Abou Jaoude is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against Clemson at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
“UNC star defensive end Melkart Abou Jaoude is questionable for the game at Clemson. He led UNC in sacks last year,” Thamel wrote in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).

Abou Jaoude, who had 10.5 sacks in 2025, was absent in last Saturday’s game between North Carolina football and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the Tar Heels’ home opener at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, but he was on the sideline with a cast on his left hand and arm.
“He’s day to day,” Belichick said after the 35-3 demolition of East Tennessee State (h/t Spencer Haskell of On3). “Nobody’s working harder than he is to get back, so hopefully we get him back as soon as possible,” added the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach.
Abou Jaoude, however, saw action when North Carolina pulled off a 15-10 upset win over the TCU Horned Frogs at Aviva Stadium in Ireland on Aug. 29. In that game, the red shirt senior recorded a total of four tackles and a sack.
