The Oklahoma Sooners welcome the New Mexico Lobos to town for a Saturday evening afair in Norman in Week 3. Oklahoma is hoping for a strong response after a letdown against Michigan last weekend in Ann Arbor. The Sooners face a New Mexico team that is 2-0 on the season after wins over Central Michigan and FCS Mercyhurst.

Offensively, the Sooners need to get back on track, starting with establishing the run game and a more efficient John Mateer. Offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle didn't stick with a running game that was having some good moments in the first half, relying on Mateer to throw the ball on a day when Mateer wasn't at his best.

Mateer vowed he and the Sooners offense would respond in the right way, and now they get an opportunity to get things back on track.

Defensively, the Lobos have a chance to right some of the wrongs from the first two weeks, when tackling was an issue and athletic quarterbacks put up big runs. New Mexico will lean heavily on its rushing attack to minimize third-and-long situations against Brent Venables' defense.

Can the Sooners prove ready for SEC play with a strong performance against the Lobos? Here's how to tune into the action on Saturday night.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026

  • Oklahoma 33, New Mexico 10: There's been a lot of talk about New Mexico pushing the Sooners in this Week 3 matchup. But I expect Oklahoma to show up and take care of business on both sides of the ball. John Mateer and the offense have a bounce-back performance and the defense plays more disciplined football, with fewer missed tackles this week.
  • Spread: Oklahoma by 21 1/2
  • Over/under: 45 1/2
  • Moneyline: Oklahoma minus-2000, New Mexico plus-1200
