Arkansas is all set to host No. 2 Georgia this afternoon in the SEC conference opener for both teams. The Razorbacks are heavy underdogs against the elite Bulldogs and for good reason after suffering a 33-point loss to Utah last week. But one never knows what college football can bring and every Saturday springs eternal with endless possibilities. There aren’t a lot of logical reasons to suggest Arkansas is poised and capable of pulling a monumental upset.

The presence of one uninvited visitor, however, may be a good omen.
DJ Schockley, the sports director at Atlanta’s Fox affiliate, was able to capture some tremendous footage of a skunk making itself quite at home around Donald W. Reynolds Razorback stadium this morning.
The little critter just had a field day exploring the space around the end zone and then getting a workout in by climbing some stairs. It was just a beautiful moment as it didn’t bother anyone and no one bothered it. Removing it from the premises before 76,000 raucous fans enter and start making all kinds of ungodly noise might be a good idea, though. That just sounds like a recipe for disaster.

So what does a skunk at the stadium mean? What might it be trying to convey for college football fans and easily swayed bettors? Perhaps just that the venue’s vermin control plan needs some updating. Perhaps nothing. Or it could mean that the Bulldogs could be in for an unpleasant surprise. Or that the game is just going to flat-out stink.
That’s why they play the games. To see if animal-based sightings portend something important or if it was just wandering around aimlessly. A lot on the line this afternoon in Fayetteville.
