Oregon found the response it needed after a disappointing loss, but the way the Ducks finished Friday night became a bigger talking point. Their offense stayed aggressive deep into a game that was already out of reach, creating a divide over where competitive football ends and running up the score begins.
The result gave Oregon a new scoring mark, but it also left plenty of fans questioning the approach.
CFB Fans Criticize Oregon’s 84-0 Win Over Portland State
The No. 21 Ducks defeated Portland State 84-0 at Autzen Stadium, breaking the program’s modern-era scoring record of 81 points.
Oregon led 49-0 at halftime after scoring touchdowns on each of its first seven offensive possessions. Dante Moore threw for four touchdowns before Dylan Raiola took over and added three more passing scores in the second half.

The late-game approach drew the sharpest criticism. One fan wrote on X, “Lmfaoooo this is so embarrassing man classless.”
Another focused on Oregon continuing to operate with urgency despite its huge advantage. “They (expletive) was running a hurry-up offense with less then 3 mins to go. (expletive) pitiful,” the fan wrote.
The Ducks had also entered the matchup looking to recover from a 39-31 loss to Oklahoma State. That context shaped another reaction, with a fan writing, “Gotta pad those stats after looking like (expletive) the previous 2 games.”
Oregon’s passing approach late in the game became another point of contention. One fan wrote, “No class at all passing in the 4th quarter. Not surprised though, this is the worst program and fan base outside of Colorado. Truly pathetic.”
Another used a broader comparison to describe how the fan viewed the matchup. “It’s like getting beat up by some dude on the street and then going home and kicking the crap out of your dog in anger. Not something to be proud of,” the fan wrote.
The criticism grew as Oregon remained aggressive with the game already decided. Another fan pointed to the conference, writing, “The Big Ten should be embarrassed that this happened. Up 77 with seconds left and still throwing the ball trying to score? There’s nothing impressive about running up the score like that. Win with some class.”
Head coach Dan Lanning was also singled out for the team’s approach. “This is classless from Dan Lanning and Oregon. Embarrassing,” one fan wrote.
Another reaction mocked the significance of the record itself, saying, “Oregon… my goodness. I can’t believe this video is actually real. Dan Lanning has officially surpassed Sark & Riley for the lead role in the upcoming Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. This is worse than Michigan storming the field week 1.”
