ALLIANCE — The college football season continues for the University of Mount Union as the Purple Raiders (1-1) host Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Heidelberg (2-0) in Week 3.
Mount Union got back on track in Week 2 with a dramatic win over Grove City after falling to No. 5 Wheaton 24-23 to open the season.

I'm back at the University of Mount Union where the Purple Raider football team is set to open Ohio Athletic Conference play today against Heidelberg. It's a crisp 64 degrees with overcast skies as teams go through warmups. Heidelberg comes in with a 2-0 record. Mount Union is 1-1. I'll have all the action for you at 1:30 p.m. today. Heidelberg vs. Mount Union football primer
- Mount Union meets Heidelberg for the 70th time in school history. The Purple Raiders hold a record of 56-13 against the Student Princes.

- The Purple Raiders have won 37 consecutive games against the Student Princes. Heidelberg's last win over Mount Union came in 1988 (24-14). The Purple Raiders are 47-1 overall in the last 48 games against the Student Princes.
Meet the Heidelberg and Mount Union head coaches
- Scott Donaldson, Heidelberg: This is Donaldson's 11th season as the head coach at Heidelberg. He has a career record of 53-31 and 37-30 in the OAC. Donaldson has never had a team finish with a winning percentage less than .500 as head coach at Heidelberg. He was the defensive coordinator for Heidelberg from 2011 to 2015 before being promoted to head coach. He was the OAC Coach of the Year in 2020 and was the OAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012.
- Geoff Dart, Mount Union: Dart is in his seventh season as the head coach at Mount Union. He has a career record of 68-6. Mount Union has qualified for the Division III playoffs in each year of Dart's tenure and he has won six straight Ohio Athletic Conference league championships. Dart led Mount Union to national title game appearances in 2022 and 2024. Dart was the offensive coordinator for the Purple Raiders for seven years prior to becoming head coach. He won national titles in that role in 2012 and 2015. He also won three national championships as a player as an All-Ohio Athletic Conference offensive lineman in 2002, 2005 and 2006.

- This will be the first time in 38 years that Mount Union begins its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule against Heidelberg
- Heidelberg comes into this game 2-0 for the first time since 2023
- Mount Union was ranked #8 in the country in the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com polls this week
- Mount Union junior WR Mason Ashby (Hoover) had 100 yards and caught the game-winning touchdown for the Purple Raiders with just 12 seconds left against Grove City. It was the first 100-yard game and first receiving touchdown in Ashby's career at Mount Union.
- Junior CB Zack Liebler and sophomore CB Rickie Williams recorded their first career interceptions for Mount Union last week
- LB Corey Gibson had a career-high two sacks for Mount Union last week
- Mount Union continued its record scoring streak last week. The Purple Raiders have scored in 575 consecutive games. That's the most of any college football program in any division in the country. Mount Union is one of only two programs in the country to have a streak of over 500 games (Dayton-503, 1987-present). The scoring streak began on Nov. 7, 1981
- Heidelberg RB Drew Miller ran for 133 yards in a 38-0 win over Otterbein last week. It was his 10th career 100-yard rushing game. Miller led the OAC in rushing in 2025 with 1,383 yards
- Heidelberg has outscored its opponents 78-14 this season
