Data Points to Big Michigan Win against UTEP

If common-opponents mean anything, Michigan is in for a big day.
The first-ever meeting between Michigan and UTEP will kick off at 3:30 p.m. today with the Wolverines (2-0) entering as 35 ½ point favorites coming off a huge 17-10 home win against previously 11th-ranked Oklahoma. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Oklahoma Provides a Common Opponent Comparison
UTEP opened the season against Oklahoma and was run out of Norman with a 51-0 loss after surrendering 401 yards of total offense and turning the ball over on fumbles twice.
The Miners (1-1) only mustered 198 yards of total offense against the Sooners, including just 60 rushing.
Conversely, Michigan picked up 263 total yards of offense against Oklahoma which included 152 yards rushing – 87 of it on the legs of sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Michigan’s defense has been stellar through two games and has yet to surrender a touchdown in the red zone. Oklahoma scored its lone touchdown against the Wolverines on a 22-yard busted-coverage pass from senior quarterback John Mateer to sophomore wideout Mackenzie Alleyene.
Michigan, which had tumbled out of the Associated Press Top 25 rankings following a controversial last-second 13-12 season-opening win over Western Michigan, vaulted back up to No. 19 this week.
The Wolverines will host its Big Ten opener against Iowa next week while UTEP hosts Oregon State.
