Badgers WR breaks school record after massive game

The Wisconsin Badgers saw their passing attack finally take off in a 54-10 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles, as Colton Joseph had over 300 yards by halftime in the blowout.

After a slow start, which included a turnover on downs and an interception on the team’s first two drives, the Badgers proceeded to score on their final seven drives of the game, as they compiled nearly 500 yards of offense.

Through the first two weeks, we saw opportunities in the passing game that didn’t come together. They finally did on Saturday, as Wisconsin had nine passing plays of 15+ yards, as Colton Joseph completed nearly 70 percent of his throws.

A ton of the passing volume was funneled through slot receiver Tyrell Henry, who had a massive game, going for 14 catches, 160 yards, and a touchdown. Henry had just 41 receiving yards over the last two years combined after catching 24 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman at Michigan State.

Through the first three games, though, the passing offense has mainly funneled through him. He had four catches and 42 yards against Notre Dame. In Week 2, he had four catches for 91 yards on nine targets. Then, after an early crucial drop, Henry caught 14 balls on a whopping 18 targets, resulting in a target share over 50 percent.

Henry’s 14 catches are now the most by any Wisconsin receiver in a single game in school history. He broke Matt Nyquist’s record of 13 receptions, set back in 1995, and served as a reliable target for Joseph out of the slot.

After Henry had 11 catches entering the fourth quarter, the Badgers made a concerted effort to get him the ball on their final offensive drive, getting him three catches to tie and then set the record. Now, he’s a part of Wisconsin history in one of the better wins of the Luke Fickell era.
